Corban Goes to Preschool

Corban started preschool today!  He seemed nervous about it when we went to the open house last week, but this morning he was fine.  Once we got there he found a plastic bumble bee to play with and then he told me that I could go.  He even let me keep sack (I had told him that he wasn't allowed to have sack at preschool, but that if he needed it on the first day that was ok.  Apparently not).

When I picked him up he had so much to tell me.  He colored a banana yellow and a strawberry red.  He went down two slides.  He learned how to put his head down on the table and close his eyes during rest time.  Another little boy was crying for his daddy so he decided to give him a hug.  He asked a little girl her name but now he can't remember what is was.  He liked eating his oranges and animal cookies for snack and he ate all of it.  I love that he had so much to tell me.

Things that Corban loves: PJ Masks, dinosaurs, Paw Patrol, flopping all over the place and putting his legs up in the air, reading books, Ninja class, and cats.  He likes books about cats, TV shows that have a cat in them, looking at cats at the pet store, pretending he's a cat, and meowing in church.  He has been Cookie (book "Cookie's Week"), Dewey (book "Dewey There's a Cat in the Library), Tom or Mittens (Beatrix Potter) and Precious ("Paw Patrol").  He will also be going to build a bear on Friday to make a stuffed cat since he can't have a real one.  Strangely though, we took him to the animal shelter on his birthday because a friend works there and was going to let him hang out with the cats.  I think that he was overwhelmed because he didn't really know what to do with so many actual live cats plus there was lots of other new stuff.  At the end of the day on his birthday though going to the shelter with Ms Jewel and seeing cats was his favorite part of the day.

I have really enjoyed teaching Corban's Sunday school class over the last year.  He started having new teachers this past Sunday and he also started going to Children's Worship during the service.  The other day I was reading Corban from a children's Bible and it said "If you could talk to Jesus what would you say?"  Corban thought about this for several seconds and then said "Thank you for making so many different animals!"

Corban is now old enough for Ninja class, which he's been waiting for for a year now.  He was so excited to go and actually does a really good job of listening and doing the obstacle courses.  He's the youngest one in class (since it's for 3-5 year olds) but I think he's doing great for it being his first instructional class without a parent. 

Corban still has quite a temper and can get really frustrated, especially when he wants to talk and other people are talking or if Gabriel has something that he wants.  I can't really think of anything else that he particularly does not like.  Except red peppers.  And when my hair is wet.  The other morning I walked out with wet hair and he said "Your hair is wet.  You can go and dry it Mommy."

 It is a great thing to be able to say that Corban is potty trained.  He occasionally has an accident, but he's wearing underwear all the time (even to bed) and is telling us when he needs to go.  He has even stopped asking for a "golden chocolate bar" (Snickers) when he goes.  No more buying diapers and pull ups is exciting.

So, Corban's 3rd birthday.  It was supposed to be at the park (Nellie's Cave), but it turned out to be a very rainy and nasty day.  I was feeling pretty stressed about what we were going to do to entertain a bunch of little kids.  We ended up moving the party to the church and trying to get out several things that the kids would like to do.  Turns out that all kids need to party is a room with balloons, pool noodles, and a slide.  His party basically consisted of doing a craft with foam stickers, letting the kids play in the balloon room, eating, opening presents, followed by playing in the balloon room again.  I didn't need to be so worried about entertaining.

 

After everyone sang Corban "Happy Birthday" he smiled sweetly and said "Thanks!"

On his actual birthday (which was also Gabriel's first day of school) he wanted a doughnut and to see some cats with Mommy and Ms. Ginny.  He went to Waffle House for breakfast with Daddy. We got our doughnut, which he held so carefully.  We wandered around Petco and Michaels.  We played at Ms Ginny's house.  We went to the animal shelter.  Then we had dinner at Chick-fil-a.  He had a fun day.

Corban is getting so big.  He remains fairly independent and fearless.  How he hasn't gotten stitches or a broken bone yet amazes me.  He is full of energy, silly ideas, and sweet words (except when he's have a yelling fight or a wresting match with his brother).  Happy 3rd Birthday and start of preschool to this boy!
